Product Details
The MCG Sports THRIVE Junior Cricket Abdo Guard is high-impact resistant groin protection with cushioned edges for all-day comfort — the non-negotiable piece of safety kit every junior cricketer needs from their first net session. Sized for ages 5–14.
Why It's the First Piece of Kit to Buy
Of every piece of cricket gear, the abdo guard ("box") is the one your child must wear every single time they pick up a bat against a hard ball. The MCG THRIVE junior abdo guard is high-impact resistant, anatomically shaped, and softly edged so kids actually want to wear it — instead of conveniently "forgetting" it in the bag.
Features
- High-Impact Resistant Shell — Hard-shell construction tested to deflect ball-impact force at junior bowling speeds.
- Cushioned Edges — Softly padded rim — no sharp edges digging into the legs or hips during a long innings.
- Anatomically Shaped — Pre-curved for a junior anatomy — sits comfortably and stays in place.
- Lightweight — Light enough to be worn comfortably for hours.
- Ventilated Design — Air channels keep the area cool during long match days.
- Designed for Use with a Jock Strap — Slips into a standard cricket jock strap or supporter; not sold with strap (which is normal for cricket abdo guards).

Frequently Asked Questions
Does my child need an abdo guard for soft-ball cricket?
Not for genuine soft balls (e.g. T-ball, training tennis balls). For any cricket played with a hard ball — including practice with a leather ball — yes, every time, without exception.
How is it worn?
The abdo guard slips into a cricket jock strap or supporter that has a built-in pouch. The jock strap holds it securely in place during play. Jock straps are sold separately.
When should it be replaced?
After any significant direct ball impact (cricket abdo guards are single-impact rated for maximum protection), if the shell shows any crack, or when your child grows out of the size.
