Built for the Unconventional.
Coaching manuals produce correct players. They don't always produce match-winners. If your scoring comes from the ramp, the reverse, the slog-swept quick — shots played at angles the textbook never drew — you need Grade 1 willow and a blade that rewards improvisation instead of punishing it.
The BLU Maverick puts Grade 1 English willow behind DSC's Duckbill profile, in the BLU range's blue livery. Extended sweet spot, optimised weight distribution, thick edges and a reinforced toe.
Bulletproof Benefits
- Grade 1 English willow: The premium selection — straight, tight, near-unblemished grain. Fastest to play in, hardest rebound, and it holds its ping for seasons rather than months.
- Duckbill profile: Extends the sweet spot along the blade rather than concentrating it, with weight distribution tuned so the bat still comes through fast.
- Thick edges: A large hitting area that converts thick edges and improvised shots into runs — exactly what an unorthodox batter needs most.
- Thick reinforced toe: Extra material where yorkers and damp outfields do their damage.
- Soft, responsive ping: Pressed for rebound, so the ball leaves the face at pace even off a shot you half-committed to.
- Hex grip fitted: Ready to knock in and play.
Three BLU Maverick landing — the deepest Grade 1 holding in this shipment. BLU is our fastest-moving DSC range and Grade 1 at this price doesn't sit on the rack.

Why Grade 1 Costs What It Does
English willow is graded on the appearance of the cleft — grain count, straightness and how little natural marking runs through the blade. Grade 1 is the cleanest timber a maker has, and only a small share of any harvest qualifies. It plays in faster, rebounds harder and holds performance far longer than lower grades. On a bat you intend to keep several seasons, the wood is the part that matters most.
Mirage, Maverick or Monza — Which?
All three share the same Duckbill chassis, thick edges and thick toe. The difference is purely willow grade: Mirage Grade 2, Maverick Grade 1, Monza Pro Grade — DSC's top selection. Shape and feel stay consistent across all three, so you're choosing timber quality rather than a different bat.
Preparing a Grade 1 Blade
Knock in thoroughly — six to eight hours with a mallet across several sessions, rounding the edges, then throw-downs with an old ball before match use. A toe guard and edge tape are cheap insurance at this level. Oil lightly two to three times a season on face, edges and back only, never the splice or stickers, and store flat and dry away from heat.
Who It's For
Aggressive and unorthodox top-order batters, white-ball players who score at pace, and club cricketers moving into genuine Grade 1 willow.
