Settle the Argument in Three Seconds Flat.
Every season it happens. A batter walks out with edges you could stand a drink on, the fielding captain raises an eyebrow, and suddenly two teams are arguing about millimetres in the middle of a match. Nobody has a ruler. Nobody agrees. The game stops while someone eyeballs a bat and hopes for the best.
The GM Bat Gauge ends that conversation before it starts. Slide the bat through the moulded aperture — if it passes, it's legal. If it doesn't, it isn't. No tape measures, no debate, no guesswork. It's the same check used at the top level of the game, in a tool small enough to live in an umpire's coat pocket.
Bulletproof Benefits
- Conforms strictly to MCC Law 5: Sizing parameters are built to the current bat dimension regulations, so your ruling is backed by the actual Laws rather than an opinion.
- Pass or fail in one motion: The bat either slides through or it doesn't — an unarguable, visible result in front of both captains that ends disputes instantly.
- Precision-moulded construction: Fixed tolerances that can't drift, bend or be misread the way a tape measure can, so every check across every match is identical.
- Checks width, depth and edges together: Catches over-spec blades that pass a casual eyeball test but breach the Law on edge thickness — the most commonly exceeded dimension.
- Pocket-sized and match-ready: Light enough to carry every game alongside your counters and bails, so it's there the one day you actually need it.
- Protects the balance of bat and ball: Keeps your competition fair and your club compliant with association equipment rules.
One disputed bat can cost a club a match — or a premiership. Umpires, clubs and associations get their gauges in before the season starts, not halfway through it. We only have a handful at Cranbourne — secure yours now.

How to Use It
Hold the gauge at the widest point of the blade and pass the bat through the aperture, face first, from toe to shoulder. A legal bat travels through cleanly along its full length. If the blade snags at any point — on the face, the back or the edges — it exceeds the permitted dimensions and cannot be used in a match played under the Laws. Check the bat before the toss rather than mid-innings, and note that the gauge assesses the blade only; overall bat length is measured separately.
Who It's For
Accredited and club umpires, junior and senior association match officials, club committees checking gear at the start of a season, coaches vetting a squad's kit, and retailers verifying stock meets current regulations.
