Cane, Cotton and Zero Excuses. The Noir 404 Steps Up.
Cheap pads announce themselves the moment you take strike. They slide sideways off the knee, the straps work loose by the third over, and the first proper delivery on the shin tells you exactly how thin the padding really is. You end up batting to protect yourself instead of batting to score.
The GM Noir 404 is built the way pads used to be built — traditional cane and cotton doing the actual work, with a dual-layer foam and fibre knee where the damage happens. A shaped knee locator holds the pad where you strapped it, and a three-strap system keeps it there through a long innings. New to GM's Noir range for the 2026/27 season.
Bulletproof Benefits
- Traditional cane & cotton construction: The proven build that spreads impact across the pad instead of concentrating it — the reason cane pads have outlasted every fashion in protective gear.
- Dual-layer foam and fibre knee: Reinforced exactly where the ball finds you most, so a rising delivery on the front knee doesn't end your innings or your weekend.
- Shaped knee locator: Contoured to sit on your knee and stay there, so the pad doesn't creep around your leg and leave the shin exposed mid-over.
- Low-density vertical and one-piece interior bolsters: Cushioned inside edge that softens contact and stops the hard rub that turns a long innings into a sore one.
- Three-strap system (two wide, one narrow): Locks the pad down without cutting circulation — strap in once and forget about them until you're back in the sheds.
- PVC leather facing and instep: Wipes clean after a muddy Saturday and shrugs off the scuffing that shreds cloth-faced pads inside a season.
- 1.95 kg per pair: Substantial enough to trust against genuine pace, light enough to still push a single and get back for two.
- Right and left hand available: Correctly built for your stance, so the reinforced side faces the bowler where it should.
First shipment of the 26/27 Noir range — and left-hand pads are always the ones that sell out. We have just one LH pair and a handful of RH in stock at Cranbourne. Left-handers, don't wait on this one.

How to Choose Your Hand
Cricket pads are sized by which hand you bat with, not which leg leads. A right-hand batter takes right-hand pads; a left-hand batter takes left-hand pads. The difference is which side of each pad carries the extra protective wing — it needs to face the bowler. Wearing the wrong hand leaves the outside of your front leg under-protected, so it's worth getting right.
Who It's For
Juniors moving up into senior cricket, club players after honest protection without a top-end price, and anyone who wants traditional cane-and-cotton pads that will see out several seasons of Saturday grade.
