Sheep Leather Where It Matters. Air Where It Doesn't.
Two things kill a pair of batting gloves. The palm goes slick and hard, so you grip tighter and lose the wrist movement that makes your bat work. Or your hands cook — forty minutes into an innings in February your hands are swimming, the leather is soaked, and the handle starts turning in your grip at exactly the wrong moment.
The SS Aerolite is a Pro Series glove built against both. A genuinely soft sheep leather palm gives you real feel and grip on the handle, and advanced airflow construction moves heat out instead of trapping it. Pre-shaped plastozote fingers under lightweight Korean PU do the protecting, with fibre inserts over every single finger.
Bulletproof Benefits
- Soft sheep leather palm: Supple, tacky and close-fitting — you feel the handle through it, which is the entire point of a good glove. Synthetic palms go hard and slick by midseason; sheep leather breaks in and moulds to your hand.
- Fibre inserts on top of every finger: Not just the index and middle — every finger gets a reinforcing insert. Most gloves at this price protect the two obvious fingers and leave the rest exposed.
- Pre-bent fibre in the two front fingers: Shaped to the natural curl of your grip, so the glove doesn't fight your hand closed. Straight-finger gloves force you to work against them all innings.
- Lightweight Korean PU over pre-shaped plastozote: Plastozote absorbs the sting of a ball that jumps, and the PU cover keeps the weight down so you aren't swinging extra grams at the top of the handle.
- Advanced airflow technology: Ventilated construction that moves heat and moisture out — the feature you'll notice most in an Australian summer, and the one that keeps your grip dry at 40 not out.
- Double-sided sweatband and towelling wristband: Absorbs sweat before it reaches your palm or runs down the handle, so your grip stays consistent from the first ball to the last.
- Soft backhand lining: Flexible, comfortable inner that lets your hand close naturally instead of being held open by stiff backing.
- Embossed wrist tab with 50mm Velcro: Wide closure that locks the glove down firmly without cutting circulation — strap in once and forget it.
- Adult and youth, right and left hand: Correctly built for your stance and your size, in all four combinations.
$84.99 against an RRP of $99.99 — a Pro Series leather-palm glove under eighty-five dollars doesn't stay on the shelf. Left Hand stock is down to five pairs in each size, and left-hand gloves are always the first thing we run out of and the slowest to restock. Left-handers, don't wait.

How to Choose Your Hand
Batting gloves are ordered by the hand you bat with, not the hand you write with. A right-hand batter takes right-hand gloves; a left-hand batter takes left-hand gloves. The pair is not symmetrical — the reinforcement is weighted toward the bottom-hand index finger, the single most-struck finger in cricket. Order the wrong hand and that protection ends up on the wrong side, leaving your most exposed finger unguarded.
Adult or Youth — Which Size?
Youth suits juniors roughly 11 to 15 and smaller-handed players; Adult covers most senior club cricketers. Measure from the base of your palm to the tip of your middle finger: under about 18 cm points to Youth, above it to Adult. The glove should be snug with no more than a few millimetres past your fingertips — loose gloves move on impact and the padding ends up somewhere other than where the ball hits. If a junior is between sizes, go Youth rather than buying big; an oversized glove protects worse, not better.
Making Leather-Palm Gloves Last
Never leave them balled up in your kit bag wet. Pull them out after every game, open the Velcro fully and let them air-dry naturally away from direct heat — a hot car boot will stiffen sheep leather permanently. If the palms get muddy, wipe with a barely damp cloth rather than soaking them. Treated properly, a leather palm softens and improves with use; treated badly, it hardens inside a season.
Who It's For
Club and grade batters who want genuine leather feel on the handle, players who bat long innings in heat, juniors stepping up from entry-level synthetic gloves, and anyone who has had a finger stung through a thin pair.
