The Pair That Stops a Junior Pulling Out of the Shot.
Watch a junior who has been stung once. They start backing away. The front foot doesn't come forward, the hands come off the handle early, and what looked like good technique a month ago has quietly become a flinch. It almost never gets traced back to the real cause — a thin pair of gloves that let them feel the ball.
The SS Super Test is SS Sunridges' top-line glove, and this is the youth build. Real leather palm rather than the synthetic found at this age group, with ergonomically shaped fingers that let young hands close naturally around the handle instead of fighting stiff padding.
Bulletproof Benefits
- Real leather palm: Genuine leather at youth level is rare — most junior gloves use synthetic that goes hard and slick within weeks. Leather grips from the first ball, moulds to the hand and gives your junior actual feel through the handle.
- Top-line Super Test build: This is SS Sunridges' premium batting glove line, made in a youth size rather than a cut-down budget glove wearing a senior name.
- Ergonomic finger design: Fingers shaped to the natural curl of a grip, so the glove flexes with the hand. Stiff, straight-fingered junior gloves force kids to grip harder, which is exactly what ruins a young player's hands and wrists.
- Wide Velcro opening: A broad closure that's easy for a junior to do up firmly on their own — and easy to get off at the end of an over without a parent helping.
- Sweat-absorbing wrist grip: Keeps moisture off the palm so the grip stays consistent through a long innings in the heat.
- Right and left hand available: Built correctly for the stance, so the reinforcement sits on the side that actually takes the blow.
$89.99 against an RRP of $119.99 — a real-leather top-line glove for thirty dollars under. We have 10 right-hand pairs and only 5 left-hand. Left-hand junior gloves are always the hardest thing to restock, so left-handers shouldn't wait on this one.

How to Choose Your Hand
Batting gloves are ordered by the hand you bat with, not the hand you write with — and plenty of juniors bat the opposite way to how they write, so check before ordering. A right-hand batter takes right-hand gloves; a left-hand batter takes left-hand gloves. The pair is not symmetrical: the extra reinforcement sits on the bottom-hand index finger, the most frequently struck finger in cricket. Order the wrong hand and that protection ends up on the wrong side.
Is Youth the Right Size?
Youth suits most juniors roughly 11 to 15, and smaller-handed players beyond that. Measure from the base of the palm to the tip of the middle finger — under about 18 cm points to Youth. The glove should sit snug with only a few millimetres past the fingertips. Resist buying a size up to grow into: a loose glove shifts on impact, so the padding ends up somewhere other than where the ball lands. An oversized glove protects worse, not better.
Why Real Leather Matters at Junior Level
Most gloves in the junior price bracket use a synthetic palm, which feels fine in the shop and then hardens and glazes within a season. Once that happens the player grips tighter to compensate, locking the wrists and flattening their bat speed. A leather palm does the opposite — it softens with use, moulds to the hand and keeps giving feedback through the handle. For a junior still developing their grip and technique, that difference compounds.
Making Leather Gloves Last
Never leave them balled up damp in a kit bag. After every game, open the Velcro fully and air-dry them naturally away from direct heat — a hot car boot will stiffen leather permanently. Wipe mud off with a barely damp cloth rather than soaking. Cared for properly, a leather palm improves across a season.
Who It's For
Juniors moving up to a harder ball and quicker bowling, young players in representative or academy programs, and parents who would rather buy one good pair than replace a cheap pair twice.
