Leather Palm. Mesh Gussets. Seventy-Nine Dollars.
There's a price bracket in batting gloves where everything is synthetic. The palm is PU that feels like plastic from the first ball, goes slick the moment your hands sweat, and hardens into a board by the end of the season. You grip tighter to compensate, your wrists lock up, and your batting quietly gets worse without you knowing why.
The SS Superlite breaks that rule. A genuine sheep leather palm at a club price, with mesh ventilation gussets to keep your hands dry and pre-shaped plastazote fingers to take the sting out. It's the glove for players who want real leather feel without stepping up to player-grade money.
Bulletproof Benefits
- Soft sheep leather palm: Real leather at this price is genuinely unusual. It's tacky from the first innings, moulds to your hand with use, and gives you actual feel through the handle instead of the dead, slippery contact of a synthetic palm.
- Mesh gusset ventilation: Mesh panels between the fingers flush heat and moisture out as you bat. In an Australian summer this is the difference between a dry grip at 40 not out and a handle turning in your hands.
- Pre-shaped plastazote fingers: Moulded to the natural curl of your grip so the glove works with your hand rather than holding it open — and plastazote absorbs impact properly rather than just padding it.
- Fibre inserts on the two front fingers: Reinforcement over the two most frequently struck fingers on the top hand, where a ball that jumps off a length finds you.
- Lightweight PU/PVC finger covering: Keeps the overall weight down, so you aren't carrying unnecessary grams at the top of the handle where it slows your bat speed.
- Cotton inner lining: Natural fibre against your skin — more comfortable and far less clammy than a bare synthetic interior over a long innings.
- Soft backhand lining: Flexible inner backing that lets your hand close naturally without fighting stiff material.
- Double-sided sweatband and 50mm Velcro wrist tab: Absorbs sweat before it reaches the palm, with a wide closure that locks the glove down without cutting circulation.
- Adult and youth, right and left hand: Four combinations so the glove is built correctly for your stance and your hand size.
Adult Right Hand is sold out and Adult Left Hand is down to two pairs. Leather-palm gloves under eighty dollars clear quickly — the Youth sizes still have stock, but the adult run is nearly gone.

How to Choose Your Hand
Batting gloves are ordered by the hand you bat with, not the hand you write with. A right-hand batter takes right-hand gloves; a left-hand batter takes left-hand gloves. The pair isn't symmetrical — the reinforcement is weighted toward the bottom-hand index finger, the most frequently struck finger in cricket. Order the wrong hand and that protection sits on the wrong side.
Adult or Youth — Which Size?
Youth suits juniors roughly 11 to 15 and smaller-handed players; Adult covers most senior club cricketers. Measure from the base of your palm to the tip of your middle finger — under about 18 cm points to Youth, above it to Adult. The glove should sit snug with only a few millimetres past your fingertips. Loose gloves shift on impact and the padding ends up somewhere other than where the ball lands, so if a junior is between sizes, go Youth rather than buying big to grow into.
Superlite or Aerolite — What's the Difference?
Both carry a sheep leather palm, but the Aerolite steps up in two specific ways: fibre inserts on every finger rather than the two front fingers, and pre-bent fibre in the front fingers for a more natural closed grip. The Superlite uses mesh gussets for ventilation while the Aerolite runs a fuller airflow construction. If you face genuine pace regularly, the extra finger coverage of the Aerolite is worth the step up. If you want leather feel at the sharpest price, the Superlite is the buy.
Caring for a Leather Palm
Never leave them balled up damp in your kit bag. After every game, open the Velcro fully and air-dry them naturally away from direct heat — a hot car boot will stiffen sheep leather permanently. Wipe mud off with a barely damp cloth rather than soaking. Looked after, a leather palm softens and improves across a season; neglected, it hardens in weeks.
Who It's For
Club cricketers who want genuine leather feel without player-grade pricing, juniors moving up from entry-level synthetic gloves, players who bat in heat and need real ventilation, and anyone replacing a pair whose palm has gone hard and slick.
