Fast Hands. Explosive Power. Attack From Ball One.
Powerplay batting is a different job to batting. You have six overs, two fielders out, and no time to play yourself in. The bat has to be through the line before you've finished deciding — which means raw mass alone is useless. You need edges and bat speed, and most bats give you one at the cost of the other.
The SS TON Phil Salt Player is shaped around that problem. Player Grade+ English willow, substantial edges for power through the hitting zone, and strategic concaving that pulls weight out of the blade so the pickup stays rapid. Built in the image of an England top-order batter whose entire method is taking the game away inside six overs.
Bulletproof Benefits
- Player Grade+ English willow: SS's ultra-premium hand-selected tier, above their numbered grades — exceptional ping, powerful rebound and the responsiveness supplied to contracted professionals.
- Massive edges: A substantial edge profile delivering serious power through the primary hitting zone — so a ball struck slightly low still clears the ring.
- Strategic concaving: Material removed from the blade face and redistributed, so you get the edge thickness without the dead weight. This is what keeps a big bat quick.
- Rapid pickup and bat speed: Shaped to feel light and manoeuvrable despite the power profile — made for players who rely on quick hands rather than brute force.
- Large sweet spot and wide playing area: A broad striking surface that gives you the confidence to attack square, straight and over the top.
- Air-dried English willow: Slow natural seasoning rather than forced kilning, optimising strength, durability and response.
- Premium handle with superior grip: Stable and controlled against genuine pace, with a quality grip fitted.
- Clean straight grain and premium TON graphics: Evenly spaced grain showcasing the willow quality, in the Players Edition livery.
- Premium bat cover included: Proper protection supplied in the box.
One bat. That's the entire allocation. Player-tier willow is made in the dozens, not the hundreds, and the 2026/27 Phil Salt Edition reaches Australia in single figures. There is no second one behind this.

Who Is Phil Salt?
Phil Salt is an England international opening batter and wicketkeeper, known for one of the most aggressive powerplay methods in the modern game. He scores overwhelmingly through fast hands and early intent rather than muscle, which is precisely the batting style this bat is shaped for — big edges carried on a blade that still comes through quickly.
What "Player Grade" Actually Means
Most makers grade English willow from 4 up to 1 on appearance — grain count, straightness and how little natural marking runs through the blade. Above that sits an ungraded tier variously called Players, Pro or Player Grade: clefts set aside before grading for contracted professionals. The practical difference is consistency. At this level you are paying for timber that performs the way the maker intends every time, rather than the best of what was left once the players took theirs.
Why Concaving Matters on a Big-Edged Bat
Edge thickness sells bats, but edges add weight at the furthest point from your hands — the worst place for it, because that is what slows the swing. Concaving scoops material from the back of the blade and redistributes the mass inward, letting a maker keep the big edges while pulling the balance point back toward the handle. The result is a bat that measures like a power bat and swings like a lighter one. On a bat built for powerplay hitting, this is the single most important piece of shaping.
Protecting a Bat at This Level
Knock in thoroughly before any hard-ball use — six to eight hours with a mallet across multiple sessions, rounding the edges carefully, then throw-downs with an old ball. Fit a toe guard and edge tape from day one; both cost a fraction of a percent of the bat. Oil lightly two to three times a season on the face, edges and back only — never the splice or the stickers. Store flat, dry and well away from heat.
Who It's For
Aggressive opening batters, powerplay specialists and fearless stroke makers who want to dictate tempo from the first ball — and anyone who wants a genuine player-tier blade rather than a retail bat wearing a player's name.
Please note: cricket bats are handcrafted from natural English willow. Weight, grain structure, colour and exact profile vary between individual bats.
